Extraordinary Ways Your Business Can Use Microsoft Access for Greater Productivity and Profitability

Unlocking the Secrets for How Microsoft Access Works

unlock_Microsoft_access_secretsLast week I busted three myths about using Microsoft Access for business. It’s a cool program that has hundreds of applications that can help a company be more productive and to make more money.

What are some of these applications? Inventory programs are a natural for Access. I’ve built programs in Access that have been in use for years that handle Accident/Incident tracking, Training, Drug Testing, Vehicle Maintenance and Usage, and on and on.

Did you know Microsoft Access can also do this…

Sometimes people think that Access is limited to just tracking numbers, but it can do so much more. Of course, it takes some up front investment in time and money to set it up. But once you do you can do fancy things that you might expect only high cost programs can do. Here are just a few of the possibilities:

Upload and Download to FTP or SFTP: It’s possible from within Access to upload and download data from an FTP site. This allows remote users to send and receive data from the main office.

Open Google Maps: From within Access you can get Google to open its maps and display where an address in your database is located. This is a great way for your inspectors to find their way to the next job site easily.

Read PDF data: With the right code, you can get Access to read the data in a PDF file or PDF form. This is a great way to avoid data entry costs.

Create Word Documents: Access can be used to create Word documents, so you don’t have to be switching back and forth.

View/Add Contacts to Outlook: Did you know that you can read your Outlook contacts into Access?  You can also add a contact to Outlook from your Access database.

View/Add Outlook Calendar Appointments: How cool would it be to view your appointments in Outlook while in Access? Well you can. You could even fill a table with this data. Oh, and yes you can go the other way and put appointments in your Outlook calendar based on what is in Access.
